Solar Grants for Homeowners

Solar grants for 2027 have just gotten better. As a residential customer you can claim up to €1,800 towards your solar panels and solar PV system (this is unchanged from last year), but there is a new solar battery grant available.

Solar Battery Grant

The Battery Energy Storage System Grant supports homeowners by providing a flat rate grant of €600 to install home battery storage systems of 5kWh or larger. Batteries of smaller than 5kWh are not eligible to apply for this grant.

Solar Grants for Commercial Properties

Just announced by the SEAI: Irish government grant aid towards the installation of solar PV panels for your business, farm, school, community centre, or other non-profit organisation has increased significantly.

The Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG) provides financial assistance to help businesses and other sectors to install solar PV panels to generate electricity on site. This technology reduces commercial electricity costs and increases security of supply, while enhancing a positive sustainability image. The grant funding is only available for systems up to a maximum 1000kWp.

Businesses have to act fast though. There is a 9 month application window (from 7th October 2026 to 6th July 2027), grant support for solar PV in the NDMG has been increased to an effective 45% rate (or a 100% increase on the previous maximum grant).

If you are a business in Northern Ireland, eligible businesses can apply for up to 20% grant funding toward the cost of a commercial solar PV installation.

Solar grants for farmers, or those in the agricultural sector have increased for 2027 under the SEAI’s Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG). Grant support for solar panels for farmers, or those in the agricultural sector in the NDMG has been increased to an effective 45% rate (or a 100% increase on the previous maximum grant).

Farmers have to act fast though. There is a 9 month application window (from 7th October 2026 to 6th July 2027), grant support for solar PV in the NDMG has been increased to an effective 45% rate (or a 100% increase on the previous maximum grant).

While the amounts on offer for solar grants for homeowners haven’t changed for 2027, some Ts & Cs have, making it available to even more Irish homeowners. Residential customer can still claim up to €1,800 towards solar panels and a new home solar system.

All homeowners, including private landlords..
Owner management companies.
Approved Housing Bodies (AHB).

Who is eligible:

The home needs to have an MPRN.
The house must have been built and occupied before 2025.
The grant is not open to homes with previous funding for solar PV at this MPRN.
