PVGEN were proud to be a part of the Meadhill Solar Farm project which has just commenced operation. The project was independently developed by farmer Sean Keating and installed by PVGEN in Meadstown, Kildorrery, Co Cork.

1. Small-Scale Renewable Energy Support Scheme

This is a historic moment in Irish solar as it is Ireland’s first solar farm under the Government’s Small-Scale Renewable Energy Support Scheme (SRESS). SRESS covers projects that produce between 50kW and 6MW of electricity.

2. Meadhill Solar Farm Details

The Meadhill Solar Farm project features 1008, 645W Longi Solar panel installed on a ground-mounted system across 1.5 acres, with a total capacity of 650 kWp and 475 kW of SMA inverter capacity. The system is expected to generate approximately 600–650 MWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 140–150 Irish homes, while avoiding an estimated 100–120 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

3. Flogas Partners with Meadhill

Flogas is partnering with Meadhill Solar Farm on the project and will provide a long-term route to market for the renewable electricity generated by the farm through a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA).

4. Sustainability for Ireland

According to an article on RTE news, Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment, Darragh O’Brien, said that it’s “an important part of our strategy to increase renewable electricity generation across Ireland”.

It also quoted him as saying “As Ireland works towards our climate and renewable energy targets, projects like this will have an important role to play in expanding our renewable generation capacity and supporting a more sustainable energy system.”

5. Revenue from Solar

Projects like the Meadhill Solar Farm are a great opportunity to generate renewable electricity across Ireland. They give farmers and landowners a chance to increase and diversify their income.
